20 Summer Poem For Kids

Summer lets you get exposed to nature. These poems help you get close to the sea, sun, wind, and trees of the beautiful and pleasant summer season.

1. Summer's Splendor By The Sea

Summer's splendor by the sea,
a gentle, blue serenity.

Caressing rays of golden sun,
blushing, bronzing all who come.

Enticed by its romantic lure,
lovers stroll the sandy shore.

Hushing rhythm of the waves
and salty, misty ocean sprays.

Sea birds echo call of cries,
pierce the deep blue azure skies.

Dolphins dancing on their way
across the sea out to the bay.

A glistening, shiny, sun-soaked day.
All young and old alike at play,

building castles by the sea,
jumping waves and spirits free.

No place on earth as perfect to be
as summer's splendor by the sea!

– Patricia L. Cisco

2. The Song Of Wind

Wind is like peace.
A swaying song it sings.
Drifting away in the summer wind.
Dancing grass in the field,
Flowers sing a windy song.
Good night, wind.
Spring has gone; summer is here.

– Natalia Huja

3. Oh, How I Love Summer

Though May did bring her deepest grey
And June did bring her gloom,
I woke this morn in a glorious way.
To Sunshine in my room.

Quick, get up,
It's time to rise.
Greet the day.
I started to cry.

For today,
It has begun.
It's finally here,
The summer sun!

Feel her warmth,
See my garden grow,
Taste the sweetest fruits,
Watch the butterflies flow.

Hear the squirrels chatter
And my orioles swoon.
Till the evening comes
With the summer moon.

It seems like I've waited.
Such a very long time,
Longing for the light of
Your rays of sunshine.

So please stay a while.
Bring your long, lazy days.
I'll cherish each blue sky.
And ride every wave.

Oh, how I love summer
And all of her songs,
Happy summer to all,
And may it be long!

– Susan M. Gilbert

4. The Summer's End

The familiar rhythm of the cricket's chirps
Create the soundtrack for each day,
Echoing Summer's end
And that Autumn's on her way.

The stifling heat of the summer sun
Is now tempered by the clouds.
Those fluffy, cotton August clouds,
That soft breezes push about.

Shadows falling everywhere
As the sun plays peek-a-boo.
Losing her strength with each new day,
A sure sign that summer is through.

As the lazy, carefree summer days,
Reluctantly draw to an end.
Excitement grows for what's ahead,
As school days and the Fall begin.

And no matter how the years may pass,
And how old I come to be,
I'll always love this time of year,
As it holds such fond memories

Of sitting with my childhood friends,
Recalling all our fun
While running, swimming, and riding bikes
Beneath the summer sun.

And sharing all our hopes and dreams.
As the future stirs us on.
Knowing as we sit on that late August eve,
Summer's ending, but her memory lives on.

But there's also a haunting sadness sometimes.
That I feel when those dark shadows fall.
And that my greatest adventures in life
Are just memories, now aroused by those sweet cricket calls.

– Patricia A. Fleming

5. A Time Of Freedom

Morning's soft air, touching everything with such care,
Caresses a young face in a quiet, secluded place.
Smile planted strong, heart beating on.
Only one thing is on her mind, and that is summertime.

A joy reckless and wild,
that's been in the heart of every child,
now set within her,
for there is no cure.
Her spirit set free, soars higher than the trees.

The books that weighed her down,
now thrown on the ground.
The rivers cleansed from winter,
are now heated for splendor.
The happiness of knowing
no bedtimes are set,
and no schedules to be met.
The sun now beating within her veins
washes away all her pains.

Then without a sound,
the sun starts to sink down.
so she heads inside,
satisfied,
until the next time.

But her spirit is just too wild and decides to wait a while,
so it stays outside and watches the sun,
waiting for what is to come.

The birds fall asleep; the peepers start to peep,
and slowly the sunbeams caressing the mountains,
turn them into splendorous fountains.

– Abbey Silent

6. The Fifties

We spent those stifling endless summer afternoons
on hot front porches, cutting paper dolls from Sears
catalogs, making up our own ideal families
complete with large appliances
and an all-occasion wardrobe with fold-down
paper tabs.
Sometimes we left crayons on the cement
landing, just to watch them melt.
We followed the shade around the house.
Time was a jarful of pennies, too hot
to spend, stretching long and sticky,
a brick of Bonomo's Turkish Taffy.
Tomorrow'd be more of the same,
ending with softball or kickball,
then hide and seek in the mosquitoey dark.
Fireflies, like connect-the-dots or find-the-hidden-
words rose and glowed, winked on and off,
their cool fires coded signals
of longing and love
that we would one day
learn to speak.

– Barbara Crooker

7. Summer's Melody

Rippling crystal waters shine like silver to reflect summer's glow.
Soothing and calming in rhythm, echoing its lyrical flow.
Magical music of nature, a symphony of splendid delight.
Skies like blue oceans in paradise, birds soaring to grasp full flight.

Gentle swans glide gracefully, elegant yet proud and strong,
Birds and bees in unison, the joyful hum of nature's song.
Rolling summer meadows shimmer like jewels in Mother Nature's crown.
Embellishing fields of emerald green draped in its golden gown.

Light sweet air blows softly, scented by sweet cherry blossom in bloom.
Delicate, pretty petals lifting to dance in harmony with summer's tune.
The sounds and scents of summer, its melody light and free.
Sands of gold that glisten, embracing waves of a warm and whispering sea.

– Edel T. Copeland

8. Summer Days

The sun, it fades in the moonlight.
The stars, they fade in the daylight.

The cold breezes are strong in winter and spring,
And the warm, sunny days are what summer brings.

The ice cream van's song plays a tune as the children play on the sand,
The joy on their little faces as their parents put money in their small, little hands.

I remember the time when my dad put me on his shoulders as we surfed in the waves,
And all the times he would put on a song, and we would have our own little rave.

I remember the time when I made sandcastles with my friends and the joy we all had.
I remember the summer days, and not a memory of those bright, sunny days was bad.

– Zoe E. McCabe

9. This Summer Day

That sprinkler is at it again,
hissing and spitting its arc
of silver, and the parched
lawn is tickled green. The air
hums with the busy traffic
of butterflies and bees,
who navigate without lane
markers, stop signs, directional
signals. One of my friends
says we're now in the shady
side of the garden, having moved
past pollination, fruition,
and all that bee-buzzed jazz,
into our autumn days. But I say wait.
It's still summer, and the breeze is full
of sweetness spilled from a million petals;
it wraps around your arms, lifts the hair
from the back of your neck.
The salvia, coreopsis, roses
have set the borders on fire,
and the peaches waiting to be picked
are heavy with juice. We are still ripening
into our bodies, still in the act of becoming.
Rejoice in the day's long sugar.
Praise that big fat tomato of a sun.

– Barbara Crooker

10. Sunbeam

I'm just a little sunbeam.
Along the floor, I crawl.
I climb up walls.
I creep down halls.
I offer warmth
to one and all.
Reborn every morning,
I ignite the morning bird's call.
I die each and every night
with the coming of nightfall.

– Pheilm G. Martin

11. Summertime

Longer days and shorter nights,
Darker shades and brighter lights.
Louder music and wilder friends,
No need for pencils, no need for pens!

The parties are turned up,
The grills are burnt up.
The drinks are getting drunk up,
Everybody is pumped up!

Make these days the time of your life,
And make the nights just as right.
This time only comes once a year,
So live it up, don't have any fears.

Everybody's happy, and the girls are fine,
You already know it's summertime!

– Raheim Robinson

12. Solstice Queen

As she tip-toes cross the sea,
she slips in so subtly.

Sharing her charms upon the earth,
kissing nature with rebirth.

She is fair and whimsical;
somewhat lackadaisical.

She lives her life in a childish way,
never planning day to day.

Spreading her wings of soft, warm winds,
this is how her journey begins.

She likes to make her presence known,
with lavender scents that's all her own,

she travels with the Monarch king,
on her finger like an elegant ring,

tucked inside her sachet purse,
are fire fly-flies she will disperse,

a lilac bouquet full of honeysuckle rose,
cascades down her arm to the tip of her toes.

dressed in golden rays of light,
her mantle laced in blue and white,

her lush trail of emerald green,
her ruffled hem of florals seen,
from coast to coast and in between.

In her glory, she holds her torch high,
warming the waters and lighting the sky.

Suddenly she begins to cry,
she even has to wonder why,

temperamental she can be
her thunderous voice and raging sea.

Though she calms down quite beautifully,
ribbons of rainbows she paints in the sky,
as she continues to pass on by.

She's as wild as the waves in the ocean,
as gentle as her sweet southern breeze,

she tends to all the nectar,
that flows within the trees,

she rest by where the willows weep,
and roams through fields of amber wheat,

she hides in forest dark and deep,
and climbs up to the mountain peak,

then soars to valleys down below,
there she watches orchards grow.

When evening comes, she wanders off into the starlit skies,
and gazes at the heavens with her sapphire eyes.

She dreams of dawns tomorrow,
when her ventures begin a new,
waking all the earth by sprinkling morning dew.

She is so very fickle,
she will not stay too long,

never wears her welcome out,
where she can not belong.

Soon there will come a day,
we will feel her presence gone,

she has crossed the vast horizon,
where she must triumph on.

She's known by many names throughout the land and sea,
but, we just call her Summer; she lives eternally!

– Patricia L. Cisco

13. The Summer Day

Who made the world?
Who made the swan and the black bear?
Who made the grasshopper?
This grasshopper, I mean-
the one who has flung herself out of the grass,
the one who is eating sugar out of my hand,
who is moving her jaws back and forth instead of up and down-
who is gazing around with her enormous and complicated eyes?
Now she lifts her pale forearms and thoroughly washes her face.
Now she snaps her wings open and floats away.
I don't know exactly what a prayer is.
I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down
into the grass, how to kneel down in the grass,
how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields,
which is what I have been doing all day.
Tell me, what else should I have done?
Doesn't everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?

– Mary Oliver

14. Summer Time

Sun shines on your skin and mine.
Until it sets way after nine.
Memories made with a cold drink in hand.
Moments to cherish with feet in the sand.
Everyone laughing smiles on every face.
Remember the moments; those were the days.

Turn up the music, sing it out loud.
Indigo skies, no sign of a cloud.
Mutter the words that no one will know.
Everlasting memories; where does time go?

– William Wilson

15. Summer Longing

Not just the sun,
It's the memories.
The fun,
The love,
The leaves that sway in the warm August breeze.

It's not just the places.
It's the journey
With smiling faces.

And as I look up at this cloudy sky,
I wish for the freedom,
And the city lights rushing by.

It's not just summer,
It's the memories that last.
It's the friends,
The laughs,
The campfires…
And vivid pasts.

– Rose Abbott

16. Our Summertime Fun

I looked outside and viewed the trees,
Smelled the summer air,
I felt the warm breeze.
The sun with its golden bars.
That drop so gently on the field afar.
The beautiful blue sky,
Painted very seldom with white clouds so high.
The wet green grass,
Doused with the morning's rain.

Perfect weather for camping.
We'll go have a fish.
Mum will mix the batter,
And stick the fish on a platter.
A joy so reckless and wild,
That's in the heart of every child.
Now we look at our skin.
Let the sunburns begin.
We'll play in the sun.
This is summertime fun.

– Adelle M. Scott

17. A Sunny Day

The sun was shining so bright,
having beaten the clouds in fight.

We wanted to go out for fun.
I wish the clouds could beat the sun.

Evening came, and the sun went down.
We all went for a walk in the town.

Water was flowing down the stream,
While I was licking my ice cream.

The stars shone brightly in the sky;
they finally showed all their might up high.

– Nirbhay Kwatra

18. Summer

The sun is out.
The children scream and shout.
All about.

There is no more school.
Everyone in the pool!
No more looking like a fool.

They run outside,
Find places to hide
And bikes to ride.

Everyone is having fun.
No rush, no places to run.
Relax and play with anyone.

No one is stressed,
No more weight on their chests.
This is why summer is the best.

– Ramin R. Alam

19. I Can't-Wait for Summer

I can't wait for summer when school days are done,
to spend the days playing outside in the sun.
I won't have to study. No homework, no tests.
Just afternoons spent on adventures and quests.
Instead of mathematics and writing reports,
I'll go to the park and play summertime sports.
Instead of assignments, report cards, and grades,
I'll get to play baseball and watch the parades.
I'll swing on the playground. I'll swim in the pool
instead of just practicing lessons in school.
The second the school year is finally done.
I'll spend every minute with friends having fun.
I hardly can wait for the end of the year.
I'm counting the days until summer is here.
It's hard to be patient. It's hard to be cool.
It's hard to believe it's the first day of school.

– Kenn Nesbitt

20. Summer

Weather gets warmer and fruits riper
Clothes replaced with the ones lighter

Sun in the sky blazing like a silver ball
Makes wheat and vegetables to be tall

Every morning breeze shakes the green trees
Brings us joy, and the smell of fragrant leaves

Boiling springs in the heart of high mountains
Are welcoming the thirsty birds sitting in tens

Farmers' busy time on the fields gathering crops
Tired bodies sweating look like they stopped the clocks

Harvest season of juicy and watery fruits
Greatest reason refresh dry and thirsty throats

Children's laughter and playing shouts fill the air.
Up and down, jumping and kicking with no care.

Everyone does a job; men bring and chop the logs.
Little children go after one another and play with bugs.

– Mohamad Zibadel

Summer makes everything around bright and beautiful. Children get ample opportunity to play outdoors and be close to nature. Ice creams and cold drinks are an integral part, and summer holidays add a gush of joy to the little hearts. The clear blue sky dotted with birds, the summer breeze, blue seas, flowers, and butterflies are perfect inspirations to pen down a few lines of poetry. Encourage your children to express their thoughts in poetry. Also, read these poems to your children or hear them recite them for a fun-filled summer.
